El Gallo Estrada con Gilberto MendozaThe current unified flyweight champion, the Mexican Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada visited the offices of the World Boxing Association located in Panama, on Tuesday afternoon.

Gilberto Jesus Mendoza received the champion who has a record of 30-2, 24 KO´s, as confirmed by the boxer himself.

The flyweight world champion, who was accompanied by his working team, received a present from the WBA family. He chatted about his beginning in boxing and stated his wish to rematch the former world champion, Roman “Chocolatico” González.

He speaks slowly, has a lively look and sincere smile, “El Gallo” Estrada talked about some memories and some plans. He is back in training, and is ready for a new defense.

He recalled that he first fought Gonzalez when he was 22 years old, “at that time a closed aunt died and that affected me very much, and I had a hard time trying to make the weight. It was a great fight though.

Then came the time to fight Brian Viloria, a fight that many thought to be difficult for Estrada, however, the Mexican won the fight and the WBA belt, and defended it last July against Milan Melindo.

“Before that fight he had a problem with a molar, and the dentist said he had to extract it and he could not fight. But I told him, no, and during the fight the molar came out”, he said amused.

He has plans for end of March, so “upon returning to Mexico we will begin sparring.”

He does not have the name of his next opponent yet, but he knows who he would like to fight in the near future. “Besides Chocolatico, he wants to fight Akira Yaegashi, WBC champion.”
