Andy Cruz successfully defended his WBA Continental Latin America lightweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Omar Salcido on Saturday night at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

The Cuban standout put on a clinical performance against a tough and durable opponent, overcoming Salcido’s relentless aggression to secure the win. The judges’ scorecards reflected Cruz’s dominance, reading 99-91, 98-92, and 98-92.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist displayed his trademark precision and ring IQ, effectively managing Salcido’s pressure and countering with sharp combinations. Despite being pushed hard at times, Cruz maintained his composure and showed his ability to adapt under fire, proving his mettle in only his fifth professional fight.

With this victory, Cruz extended his undefeated record to 5-0, with two wins coming by way of knockout. Meanwhile, Salcido’s record now stands at 29-2 with 14 knockouts. Cruz continues to show why he is considered one of the most promising fighters in the lightweight division.
