Countdown for Morrell- Benavidez

On February 1, the first major fight of 2025 for the World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight title and the WBC interim belt will take place between David Morrell and David Benavidez.

Two young fighters will step into the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for a bout that could mark their careers and will rank the winner as one of today’s best.

Morrell holds the WBA belt and for years has had a verbal grudge with Benavidez and a sporting rivalry that has transcended to the press with different episodes, including physical disputes in recent promotional events.  That has made the atmosphere increasingly heated and the public has put more interest than it already had in this fight.

The Cuban is a very technical fighter with good mobility and a southpaw guard. At 27 years of age, he has already been super middleweight champion and now he is the 175 lbs. monarch, which has made him gain a lot of popularity. He will try to use all his Cuban school technique and combine it with his punching power to win this fight, the toughest of his career so far.

On the other side is Benavidez, who is an American of Mexican descent. He is 28 years old and is known for his strength and impressive punching speed, which has made him a feared knockout artist since his debut in 2013.

With just over a week to go until the fight, Las Vegas is gearing up for the big event. On Monday both men will make their official arrivals and during the week there will be various activities leading up to a fight that promises a lot of action and excitement.
