Mauricio “Bronco” Lara, challenger to the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight crown, has the support of all of Mexico for his fight this Saturday against Leigh Wood, current WBA 126 lbs. champion, but especially the Mexico City Police is backing him.

The “Bronco” has been training for two years in a gym located in the northern area of the Mexican capital that belongs to the police force, where he has done all his training. In addition, to help young boxers who enter to train in search of a better life and make a career in boxing.

“About two years ago we met ‘Bronco’ Lara through his trainer, he asked for our support to come and train and we gave him permission. After that we didn’t take him out of here (he says with a laugh), he trains every day,” commented Marco Antonio Ramírez Rocha, general coordinator of the northern zone of the Mexico City police.

Lara’s last sparring session looked like a full-fledged fight, the gym was full and a large part of the police force was supporting the Aztec boxer prior to his trip to England. Undoubtedly, it is a gesture that the “Bronco” is deeply grateful for.

“I feel flattered to be here with them and I try to transmit to the youngsters a little of what I have lived. To the kids who come to train I tell them that with effort boxing can take you, like me, to the other side of the world,” said the challenger to the WBA crown.

Lara is already in the old continent and knows that this weekend he will be watched by a whole country that wants to see him crowned WBA world champion, but above all the police of his city will support him.
