Saul Alvarez is going through a very important as well as confusing moment for his career. The Mexican, who is one of the best fighters in the world, is still recovering from his loss last year against Dmitry Bivol and, also, from a hand injury that forced him to undergo surgery.

“Canelo wants to prove that he is still at the top and in the midst of this process, he has the opportunity to fight in Jalisco, the state where he was born and where formed as a fighter, which will add a sentimental charge to his whole process.

The 32-year-old fighter faced Bivol in May of last year, a fighter he couldn’t beat in a higher category. He subsequently underwent surgery and returned to face Gennady Golovkin for the third time in September, whom he defeated in a tough fight after 12 rounds.

The opportunity to be in the Chivas stadium in front of a crowd of compatriots and with the eyes of the whole world on him is an important weight for “Canelo’s” career because it gives his country a chance to show it is a great venue and is a prize for his country, a nation that has given several of boxing’s best warriors in history.

But Alvarez also has a personal responsibility and that is to demonstrate, first of all, that he is healthy and still the same as always; on the other hand, that he is mentally calm and ready to beat his opponent as he has had the public accustomed to in his career and; in addition, that his fight serves as a start to a new stage in which he seeks more important challenges.

Saturday night will be “Canelo’s” night and it is a national celebration, but while the fans celebrate and have fun, Alvarez has many things to resolve.
