Mexico’s Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez, the current P4P King of the boxing world, dispatched Turkey’s Avni Yildirim in three rounds on Saturday night at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

It took only three rounds for the pride of Guadalajara to tip the scales to his favor. Before the end of the fight and during the first two rounds, Canelo was attacking with all his artillery, throwing punches to the body and damaging uppers to the face of the Turkish, punishment that forced trainer Joel Díaz to stop the actions before the fourth round began to safeguard the health of his pupil.

The city of Miami had to wait twelve years to watch Canelo fight again, but the wait was worth it, as the thousands of spectators who came to see the return of the Mexican, who is today a world star, proved.

With this presentation, Saul Alvarez fulfilled his first successful defense of the WBA 168 lbs. Super Championship and the WBC belt. He also improved his record to 55 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws, and 37 KOs, while Yildirim left his record at 21 wins, 3 losses, and 12 KOs.

To close on a high note, Matchroom Boxing made official Canelo’s fight against British Billy Joe Saunders for the WBO Super Middleweight world title on May 8th at a venue to be announced.
