Canelo: a man of challenges

Saul Alvarez’s journey to the undisputed super middleweight title was plagued with challenges and although he now has all the 168-pound belts, he was not satisfied with defending them in his next fight.

The Mexican fighter decided to face the World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight champion, Dmitry Bivol, in a fight that means a challenge for the career of the current best pound-for-pound fighter.

Alvarez will not only step into the ring as a challenger this Saturday at the T-Movile Arena, but he will do so against an undefeated champion who has the advantage in both height and reach, in addition to being in a division in which Canelo has only had one fight during his career.

The 31-year-old fighter knows what he is up against. He must overcome the Russian’s incisive jab, try to penetrate his guard while trying to find his distance and test whether his punches are capable of hurting the champion.

But this is not the first time Alvarez has faced a tough challenge. He has made fights look easy that were not easy in theory and he intends to repeat the dose this time around.

Boxing is once again living a party in the week of Cinco de Mayo and the protagonist could not be other than Canelo Alvarez, who has things to prove this weekend.

Great start for the Argentine youth national team
