WBA interim super lightweight champion Jose Benavidez, Jr. (23-0, 16 KOs) retained his title with a twelfth round TKO over son of a legend Jorge “Maromerito” Paez, Jr. (38-6-2, 23 KOs) on Friday night at the US Airway Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Benevidez dropped Paez in round three with a body shot. The bout ended in round twelve when Benavidez dropped Paez for the second time with a left hook to the head. Paez beat the count, but didn’t respond to referee Raul Caiz Jr.’s commands and the bout was halted. Time was :21.
