Unbeaten British Jack Bateson will step into the ring this Saturday to face Argentina’s Diego Alberto Ruiz for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Intercontinental super bantamweight title at the Leeds United FC Banqueting Suite, Elland Road, Leeds.

The 28-year-old fighter has just signed a contract with Probellum ahead of his next fight and is looking to end his week on a high note by winning the pioneering body’s regional belt, which would be an important step in his career.

However, he will have to deal with Ruiz, who arrives from South America with the highest motivation and with an important experience. He comes from a draw as a visitor last February against prospect Lee McGregor in London and has additionally faced opponents of the stature of Michael Conlan and Suavaz Masoud.

The fight will be the feature fight of this Saturday’s event, which will feature Ohara Davies, Archie Sharp and other fine British fighters. Bateson has 16 wins and 4 knockouts, while Ruiz has 23 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw and 12 knockouts.
