WBA – WBC – IBF president met and intense working agenda on Wednesday in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico, where they agreed upon several issues and major achievements for the benefit of boxing.

Gilberto Mendoza and Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, WBA president and vice president; Mauricio Sulaiman, WBC president and Daryl Peoples IBF president together with other directors gather to discussed and made suggestions throughout the day that took place in an atmosphere of respect, unit, team and transparency.

President Mendoza made it clear that the meeting “is for the well-bing of boxing, a commitment to make things better”, pointed out.

Among the agreements is to create a pilot program for the WBC and IBF to use the half point system, which has already been used by WBA for several years.

This process will begin next year with non-title fights at first. The half point system is used to reduce possibility of controversial decisions, and to avoid draw rounds.

They also discussed the use of electronic scoring and instant replay, agreed by the three Ecumenical bodies.

“There will be agreements on the scoring system with the electronic scoring and the half point system”, said President Mendoza.

Other agreement is to have the unique champion, and perform a safety weigh-in the day of the fight, to avoid the fighters with more than 10 pounds before the fight.

“This is a process and we need to make agreements with promoters and boxing commissions, however we will get to the point where we will have a single unique world champion by division”, said Gilberto Jesus Mendoza to the Mexican press, regarding the scoring system he said, “what we are looking for is to minimize the difference in scores. It is not the same to lose by a wide scoring than to lose by a close one”.

Gilberto Jesus Mendoza also told the media the boxing organization directors present that the most important thing of this second historical meeting is that: “We are leaving behind individual thinking”, which will undoubtedly benefit everyone and especially the sport.

Peoples also stressed that vision, “the commitment of the three boxing organizations with the sport is great and there is cooperation of all of us to do it.”

Sulaiman also pointed out: “The presence of Gilberto Mendoza marked this second meeting, because he put an optimal dynamic to reach agreements”.

Everything is set for the First Women Convention organized by the WBC and that will be attended by the IBF and WBA, besides more than 30 female boxers have been invited.
