Venezuelan powerhouse Albert Ramírez will put his WBA International Light Heavyweight Title on the line this Thursday when he squares off against Croatia’s Marko Calic at the Casino Montreal in Quebec, Canada.
Ramírez, an undefeated force in the division, turned pro in 2018 after a stellar amateur career and has since racked up 19 wins, with 16 coming by knockout. In January 2024, the El Vigía native captured the WBA International strap by outpointing Ukraine’s Artur Ziyatdinov in a dominant unanimous decision victory.
The 31-year-old made his first title defense on August 23, 2024, in La Guaira, Venezuela, where he showcased his punching power by stopping Germany’s Adam Deines in the seventh round. Now, he looks to solidify his standing in the division with another statement win.
Calic, 36, enters the bout with a record of 15-1, with his lone defeat coming in a 2020 WBA International title bid against British contender Joshua Buatsi, who stopped him via TKO. The Croatian now has a second chance to claim the belt that eluded him five years ago.
For Ramírez, a victory would push him one step closer to a world title shot, as he currently sits at No. 3 in the WBA light heavyweight rankings.
