Jesse “Bam” Rodríguez further cemented his status as one of boxing’s brightest stars with another spectacular performance on the sport’s biggest stage. The gifted southpaw added the World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight championship to his collection, scoring a devastating sixth-round knockout over Antonio Vargas to seize the crown in emphatic fashion.

Rodríguez controlled the action from the outset with his trademark footwork, elite timing, and ability to create angles that left Vargas struggling to find answers. The former champion attempted to remain competitive by relying on his hand speed and determination, but Rodríguez’s accuracy quickly became the difference-maker. Round after round, the San Antonio native broke his opponent down with crisp combinations to both the head and body, steadily wearing him down physically and mentally.

The end came in the sixth round when “Bam” shifted into another gear. Rodríguez landed a crushing left hand to the chin that sent Vargas crashing to the canvas. Although Vargas managed to beat the count, the respite was brief. Moments later, Rodríguez unleashed another thunderous left hand that finished the job, forcing the stoppage and bringing an end to the contest.

With the statement victory, Jesse “Bam” Rodríguez strengthens his grip on the bantamweight division and continues to build his case as one of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world as he looks ahead to the biggest challenges of 2026.
