Carlos Cañizales won a tough fight last weekend against Cuban Daniel Matellon in the World Boxing Association (WBA) KO Drugs. The hard-fought technical decision victory gave Cañizales the right to challenge the world champion, who is now the Japanese Kenshiro Teraji.

He had to deal with cuts on both eyebrows and after the eighth round he could not continue, so the fight went to the scorecards in which he was ahead and achieved a great victory for his career. Now, he must think about a bigger challenge and that is the champion Teraji.

“First we had our mind set on Matellon and thank God we won. It was a very tough fight, he is a great fighter but we achieved the goal,” said “CCC” after his victory.

Now it’s CCC turn to think about Kenshiro Teraji, the brand new unified champion who is one of the great Japanese fighters and has shown absolute superiority in his recent fights.

“I am aware of Kenshiro’s quality. He is a tough fighter but I always say there is no impossible opponent. I have time studying him with my team and we are always looking for the strategy for him. I hope to face him soon and regain the world title,” he continued.
