Viviana Ruiz Corredor defeated Thailand’s Khwunchit Khunya by technical knockout in the third round at the Royal International Convention Centre in the city of Bowen Hills, Queensland, Australia, last Friday, April 21. Thus, she was crowned flyweight champion of the WBA Oceania.

The boxer from Bogota did not give much room for maneuver to her opponent. Knowing she was a local, in the country and with the people who welcomed her as a new family, Viviana Ruiz shone from the first round. 

The result was anticipated with the reiteration of combinations that Ruiz hit with precision on Khunya’s humanity. In the third round the definition with powerful crosses in the middle area put Ruiz with her arms up by technical knockout. 

We call Ruiz the boxer from Bogota, Colombia, because she was born, raised and graduated there as an electronics engineer. At 27, working very well for a bank in Australia, she decided to move there in search of growth. But the daily routine and being alone there, without family, without anything, led her to fall into smoking and excessive outings. In search of a change in her health and emotional well-being, Viviana Ruiz Corredor joined a gym she used to go to every day back in Sydney. She started boxing and fell in love with being able to throw punches and measure her capabilities. 

That’s how Ruiz went from the office to the bandages and boxing gloves, dreaming of becoming a champion. Today, at the age of 40 and in her best physical condition, Viviana managed to conquer the black and gold belt of Oceania at 112 pounds and raised her record to 7 wins with 4 knockouts and only 1 loss.
