Ohara Davies knocked out Lewis Ritson in the ninth round during their World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight eliminator fight last Saturday and that victory puts him on the doorstep of a world title shot.

The main fight of the event held at the Newcastle Arena ended with a big body punch by Davies, which sent Ritson to the canvas with no ability to react 2:23 minutes into the round.

Davies had dominated the fight well and when the knockout occurred he was up on all three judges’ scorecards 78-74, 78-74 and 77-75, evidence of how well he performed against an experienced opponent like Ritson.

Davies improved his record to 25 wins, 2 losses and 18 knockouts. Ritson now has a record of 23 wins, 3 losses and 13 knockouts.
