Trevor Bryan retained his WBA world heavyweight championship by split decision over Jonathan Guidry on Saturday night at the Packard Music Hall in Warren, Ohio.

Bryan did not have an easy fight against Guidry but he showed his strength and after 12 hard rounds he won by split decision, 118-109, 116-111 and 112-115, to remain as champion of the division.

With a clear advantage in height and build, Bryan was always ahead in the fight but was very cautious with a Guidry who was throwing hard and was being quick with his hands in the counter attack. The fight had some electrifying moments and good exchanges that got the crowd out of their seats.

However, it was Bryan who was able to land the better punches, especially straight rights and left hooks, to take advantage and ultimately retain his championship.

The 32-year-old fighter improved his undefeated record to 22 wins, with 15 knockouts. Meanwhile, Guidry’s record dropped to 17 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws and 10 knockouts.
