British Shannon Courtenay lost the World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight title on the scale on Friday and Jamie Mitchell will be the only one competing for the black and gold belt tomorrow at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, England.

Courtenay weighed in at 120.5 pounds and although she was given two hours to make the 118, she was unable to do so, so the rules for this type of situation were applied.

WBA contest Rule D.9 states that if a champion fails to make the weight after the two (2) additional hours granted, he will lose the title. If the challenger makes the weight, and the challenger wins the bout, he shall be crowned the new champion. If the champion who did not make the weight is the winner of the bout, the title shall be declared vacant.

Mitchell, who stopped the scales at 117.5 pounds, will become the champion if she wins the bout on Saturday night. If it is Courtenay who wins, the championship will become vacant.
