Fujioka retained her WBA belt with a great victory over Urbina

Naoko Fujioka proved why she is the Flyweight Champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA). The Japanese boxer arrived in Los Angeles for a tough fight against Mexican Sulem Urbina and retained her title with a majority decision of 95-95, 99-91, and 96-94 this Friday.

The 45-year-old Japanese had to figure out Urbina, who came out with a great fight plan and looked good in the opening rounds. Fujioka came out with an aggressive style but was surprised by the challenger, who gave blows and counterattacked especially with the left hook, which complicated the champion a lot.

But Fujioka kept up with her incessant attack and thanks to her great physical condition she was able to start cornering Urbina midway through the fight. The combinations of the Japanese boxer began to hurt Urbina, turning the fight around in the middle rounds.

In fact, Fujioka ended up throwing and connecting the best punches at the end of the fight to get an important victory and keep the black and gold belt.

The Japanese now has a record of 19 wins, 2 losses, and 7 KOs. Urbina, who made a great fight despite the loss, now has a record of 12 wins, 2 losses, and 2 KOs.
