A few days before the anticipated rematch between Jessica McKaskill and Cecilia Braekhus, the fighters have made public training sessions in which they are preparing with passion to face each other again. This second episode between the 147 lbs. undisputed champion of the moment and the dethroned First Lady will take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, under the promotion of Matchroom Boxing, and will be broadcasted by DAZN.
McKaskil was the Revelation of the year 2020 for the World Boxing Association and has made some pretty harsh statements in a virtual talk mediated by promoter Eddie Hearn.
One of the strongest phrases we heard was “once someone shows that weakness, shows they are not in it and alludes to retirement, that shows that they are mentally out of the game”. Kaskilla made this statement based on Braekhus’ statements after the August 2020 defeat about a possible retirement from boxing, implying that if so she would feel content and at peace, since she had given everything and at the same time she had already achieved an important place within the history of female boxing.
While Braekhus shows a passive and focused spirit in her preparation, the woman from Chicago shows an enormous confidence in her words, confident that she will win again and continue to be the absolute welterweight champion of the four major boxing organizations.
On the other hand, both fighters are looking forward to this rematch to set the record straight since, as the Norwegian said, some have seen her as the winner and she regrets that the judges did not see the fight correctly in Tulsa: “I know I’m a better fighter than Jessica. I had a bit of a bad day, but I feel I did what I had to do to retain my belts. But I wasn’t at home. I was on her home and she got the belts,” added Braekhus at the conference with Matchroom’s owner, who will once again be in charge of the highly anticipated event that will feature them.
March 13th is approaching and the moment of truth will be revealed in the ring when these two powerful women meet again with the goal of keeping what has been won in one case, or regaining what has been lost in the other case.
