Daniel Román starts a recovery journey after losing the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Championship. This Saturday he will step into the ring to fight Juan Carlos Payano in Uncasville, Connecticut, while keeping his eyes on the black and gold belt that Murodjon Akhmadaliev holds.

“That’s the team’s goal, you know, but I’m not overlooking Payano”, Roman said during a virtual press conference. “Payano is a great fighter, a quality fighter, like I said, and I’m not overlooking him. First, we’ve gotta get past him. And then, hopefully, we can get the rematch with Akhmadaliev and get those titles back”.

Roman fell by split decision in January against the Uzbekistani boxer and lost the Super Championship. The 30-year-old boxer had made four title defenses and had 19 wins in a row until he lost to Akhmadaliev.

Now, he will have to beat Payano, who was also WBA Super Champion, to climb the ranks and remain firm in his goal of regaining the belt. Román has a record of 27 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw, and 10 KOs.
