WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin was named WBA Boxer of the Month.

On Friday, May 6, the WBA Ratings Committee released its April rankings for all 17 weight divisions. The rankings apply from April 7 to May 5, 2016, during which time there were six world title fights.

WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, the knockout artist from Los Angeles by way of Karaganda, Kazakhstan, was named Boxer of the Month. His KO of Dominic Wade was his 15th successful defense of the WBA title and his 23rd early stoppage in a row.

WBA Super super featherweight champion Jezreel Corrales, from San Miguelito, Panama, was awarded Honorable Mention for his stunning upset of long reigning champion Takashi Uchiyama in Tokyo.
