58 years ago was born Boxer Wilfredo “Bazooka” Gómez in Las Monjas, San Juan, Puerto Rico, a close friend of the WBA family and we send him a greatings and a very happy birthday.

He was an outstanding amateur boxing figure and was 3-time-world champion.

He is the only Puerto Rican who won 32 fights by KO and 17 consecutive title defenses won by KO. He fought in professional boxing 14 years making spectacular fights with the best of the time, Lupe Pintor, Salvador Sánchez, Rocky Lockridge entre otros.

It was precisely Lockridge, whom he defeated by split decision in 15 rounds, with whom he made history, becoming WBA champion on May 19, 1985, -the eighth Boxer to win three world crowns, and fourth Latin in achieving it. In addition, he was the second Puerto Rican with such career.
