At the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico, WBA interim super flyweight champion Nonito Donaire (24-1, 16KOs) stopped Hernan Marqeuez (27-2, 20KOs) in the eight round. Donaire boxed for the first two rounds. He was fighting in the southpaw stance from the opening bell. Marquez opened up in the third, landing a few combinations.

Donaire came back with some very hard punches in the fourth round. In the fifth, Donaire hurt Marquez bad and knocked him down. Marquez was nearly knocked down again. He held on for dear life until the bell.

Marquez held his own for the next couple of rounds, but in the final ten seconds of the eight round, a left uppercut sent Marquez down hard. He beat the count, but his trainer Rudy Perez stopped the contest.
