Donaire-Walters Press conference photos/videoWhile the World Championships Committee denied the rematch request against Dominican Juan Carlos Payano made by former champion Anselmo “chemito” Moreno, the doors of the World Boxing Association remains open for the Panamanian as vice President Gilberto Jesús Mendoza emphasized.

Moreno and Payano fought in Mesquite, Texas, on September 26, 2014. The Dominican won by Technical Decision. This technical decision caused the rematch request.

Mendoza pointed out that, “the World Championship Committee made the review and consider the arguments were not enough to give the rematch”.

The WBA vice president stressed that the ring measures were according to the regulations saying: the ring was the right. Besides Texas Boxing Commission provided with the doctors’ statement supporting why they allowed the fight to continue and why they stopped it”.

Similarly, Mendoza, said “in my personal opinion Chemito Moreno deserved the rematch, but it cannot affect the decision of a collegiate body as the WBA”.

He insisted that because of his super champion status of, and the number of defenses during his career “he did not deserve to lose the way the fight ended, but that is my personal opinion was not that of the majority of the directors who voted on October 25, at the meeting held in Barranquilla, Colombia”.
