“We’re not taking this fight to get recognition. We’re taking this fight because Lemieux strongly feels he can knock him out.”

On Saturday, October 17, at New York’s Madison Square Garden, WBA Super middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), from Los Angeles, California, by way of Karaganda, Kazakhstan, is getting it on with the IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs), the bomber from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The fighters and their representatives reached agreement last week. The fight will be on HBO pay-per-view.

“This is bombs away,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Lemieux’s promoter. “We’re not taking this fight just to get recognition. We’re taking this fight because Lemieux strongly feels he can knock him out. He has better staying power, a tremendous jab. It’s a dangerous fight for Triple G.”

Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler said, “This is a winner-take-all fight, two champions putting their belts on the line, the two biggest punchers in the division. It takes a big heart and a big punch to make this fight, and that’s what it will take to win it.”

These guys can punch. They can wax. They can land bombs. They are explosive.
