An animated press conference where local favorite Luis “Nica” Concepcion and Mexican KO artist Hernan “Tyson” Marquez were formally introduced to the national and international press was held to day in Panama. The match up between the twenty-two year old Marquez (29 2, 22 KOs) and Concepcion (22 1, 17 KOs), 26, was officially announced for the flyweight WBA title this coming Saturday night. The twelve round championship bout will be held at the 14,000 capacity Roberto Duran Arena.

Marquez will be looking for a world title for the second time since last July he challenged Nonito Donaire for the WBA super flyweight title but was stopped by the Filipino while Concepcion is hoping to defend his title for the fourth time.

“I came to this great country as a challenger for the world title, I recognize what type of fighter Concepcion is,” Marquez stated over the shouts of the local fans. “I am ready mentally and physically for a great fight and take the title to Mexico at any cost. I will fight like every other Mexican, with a lot of heart and balls.”

“As far as boxing, I have no respect for the champion and I am not intimidated by his wins over my countrymen or his knockouts, I have what it takes to beat him.”

Three of Concepcion’s last five victims have been Mexicans.

Somewhat surprised by the words of Marquez, Concepcion made it clear during his time at the podium that on Saturday night only the two of them would be in the ring and that is when he will prove that he is the best flyweight in the world, “I have never liked to talk much about my opponents, I am only looking forward to the fight. What I will assure you is that I will win the fight and the title will stay in Panama and Marquez will go back to Mexico with empty hands.”

The World Boxing Association has named the officials for the championship bout. The referee will be Puerto Rican Luis Pabon while the judges will be Ted Gimza and Steve Weisfield, both from the United States plus Colombian Manuel Rodriguez.
