WBA Orders Purse Bid for Schofield vs. Bahdi Vacant Lightweight Title Fight

The World Boxing Association (WBA), through its Championships Committee, has ordered a purse bid for the vacant lightweight world title bout between Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi. The bidding is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, in Cypress, Texas, United States.

The purse bid will begin at 11:00 a.m. local time and will be conducted by Championships Committee Vice Chairman Julio Thyme from the pioneer organization’s U.S. office in Cypress.

The WBA has formally notified all involved promoters and provided them with the corresponding purse bid regulations and official bid forms. The Championships Committee had previously granted a negotiation period for the bout, but after the parties were unable to reach an agreement, the contest was ordered to purse bid.

The minimum bid to secure the promotional rights for the fight has been set at US$150,000, while the purse will be split evenly between both contenders (50%-50%) since the WBA lightweight title is currently vacant.

Schofield is the division’s No. 1-ranked contender, while Bahdi holds the No. 2 position. As the top two available contenders in the rankings, they will now compete for the vacant WBA lightweight championship.
