Jaron “Boots” Ennis further cemented his status as one of boxing’s brightest stars with a devastating performance in his junior middleweight debut. The American standout captured the World Boxing Association (WBA) super welterweight title, along with the WBO championship, by stopping talented Puerto Rican contender Xander Zayas in the seventh round of a one-sided affair, where Ennis’ overwhelming physical strength dictated the action from the opening bell.

The fight quickly turned into a grueling test for the young Puerto Rican, who had no answer for Ennis’ surgical angles or crushing punching power. The tone of the bout was established in the very first round when Ennis landed a thunderous combination that sent Zayas to the canvas early, immediately raising concern in the challenger’s corner.

To his credit, Zayas relied on his polished boxing skills and fighting pride in an effort to remain competitive through the middle rounds. But Ennis’ relentless pressure, lightning-fast reflexes, and pinpoint accuracy continued to take their toll. In the fifth, the Philadelphia native trapped Zayas along the ropes and floored him for the second time with a perfectly timed hook to the head, exposing the growing physical wear on the challenger.

The spectacular finish came in the seventh round. Sensing his opponent was fading, Ennis stepped on the gas and unleashed a brutal barrage of power punches that dropped Zayas for the third and final time. Seeing the punishment had become unnecessary and recognizing the brave Puerto Rican was in no position to continue, the referee immediately waved off the contest.

With the emphatic knockout victory, Jaron Ennis claims the prestigious black-and-gold WBA championship belt and further strengthens his case as one of the sport’s elite pound-for-pound fighters.
