The World Boxing Association (WBA), through its Championships Committee, has officially designated David Jiménez as the new WBA Super Flyweight World Champion after Jesse Rodríguez vacated the title to move up to the bantamweight division and challenge Antonio Vargas.
Jiménez had held the interim championship and was elevated to full champion status in recognition of his accomplishments and standing within the sport. Throughout his professional career, the Costa Rican standout has compiled an impressive résumé, earning significant victories and proving he belongs among the elite fighters in the division.
The Championships Committee also named John Ramírez as the division’s mandatory challenger. As a result, negotiations must begin for a world title showdown between Jiménez and Ramírez. The conditions and deadlines governing the mandatory championship bout will be announced in the coming days in accordance with the WBA’s internal regulations.
The official notification has already been sent to Jiménez’s team, which has been informed of the decision. The pioneering organization expects “Medallita” to carry the championship belt with pride, honor, and responsibility.
