WBA ORDERS FINAL ELIMINATOR BETWEEN YANKIEL RIVERA AND ANGELINO CÓRDOVA

The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championship Committee has officially ordered a final flyweight eliminator between Puerto Rico’s Yankiel Rivera and Venezuela’s Angelino Córdova, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown in the 112-pound division. The ruling was made official on Thursday, February 20, with the WBA formally notifying both fighters’ camps to begin negotiations.

Per the WBA Championships Committee, both teams now have 30 days to reach an agreement, with a deadline of March 22.

As outlined in Rule C.30 of the WBA Championship Regulations, a final eliminator must be contested between the two highest-ranked available contenders, both of whom must be approved by the committee. In this case, Rivera currently holds the No. 2 spot in the WBA rankings, while Córdova sits at No. 3.

If both camps fail to reach an agreement within the designated timeframe, or if either party declines to negotiate, the WBA reserves the right to call a purse bid, with a 50/50 split in accordance with the organization’s internal regulations.

With a potential world title shot on the line, Rivera and Córdova now have a crucial decision to make as they look to position themselves at the top of the flyweight division.
