Saul “Canelo” Alvarez announced his return to the ring for next May 6. The Mexican will return home and will do so against John Ryder at the Chivas Stadium in Guadalajara to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight belt, in addition to the WBC, IBF and WBO crowns.

In a very significant press conference in his birthplace, Alvarez stood alongside Ryder in a one-on-one that was broadcast via straeming. A large number of press and fans were on site to see them face each other for the first time before the May fight.

“Canelo” is coming off a complicated process in his career as he lost last May to Dmitry Bivol and then had to deal with surgery. He returned in September to face Gennady Golovkin, whom he defeated after 12 rounds and now feels ready for another challenge.

Ryder, meanwhile, had been waiting for this opportunity and comes in on a four-fight winning streak. The 34-year-old veteran will go as a visitor, something that is not usual for him but he aims to damage the home fighter’s party.

The promotion of the bout will continue in the coming days, while both have already started their training camps for a showdown that will take place in less than two months.

Alvarez has a record of 58 wins, 2 losses, 2 draws and 39 knockouts. Ryder comes into the fight with 32 wins, 5 losses and 18 knockouts.
