In May, Canelo Alvarez raised it with the expression “it’s heavy”, as WBA president Gilberto Mendoza warned him. The sculpture in bronze and gold, created in detail by Colombian artist Juan Pablo Restrepo Mejia, representing the mythical character Mickey Mouse with boxing gloves on, scowling ready for the ring, will be present at the WBA’s centennial convention.

He was born and raised in Medellin, Colombia, with a family that nurtured and shared the love of art with Juan Pablo. As his grew up, so did his art.  He practiced various painting techniques until during his college years, he turned completely to sculpture.

Finally, in 2013, Juan Pablo decided to dedicate himself completely to art and put his Civil Engineering career on hold. Combining experiences of what he studied plus the passion for art, the young artist began to travel the world to leave his mark on every continent.

“When you challenge yourself, it is always synonymous of evolution, we know ourselves and how far we can push our limits, if we challenge ourselves and seek our own knowledge we can expand and evolve as individuals and as artists”, is one of the phrases of Juan Pablo Restrepo Mejía who will share his creations in the Centennial Convention of the World Boxing Association.
