The death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday has brought all kinds of anecdotes and memories related to the monarch and among them is that of Ronnie Russell, former boxer who saved Princess Anne from being kidnapped in 1974 and who received a medal from the kingdom.

Russell, who was walking around the place, noticed that a man named Ball was trying to kidnap the Queen’s daughter and upon realizing the situation, he attacked the man and was able to prevent it. The delay gave time to the police to arrive and arrest the offender.

Russell was awarded the “Jorge” medal for his bravery and willingness to risk his own life to help someone. He was recognized at a public event where the Queen thanked him as a monarch but also as a mother.

A couple of years ago, Russell made it known that in addition to the recognition, Elizabeth II also took charge of paying the mortgage on his house and helped him out of that economic predicament, for which he assured that he will always be grateful.
