The news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II of England sent shockwaves around the world on Thursday. Her death was announced in the midst of worldwide sadness for one of the most prominent historical figures of the contemporary era.

The World Boxing Association (WBA) regrets the sensitive loss and embraces the English people at this time.

Aged 96 at the time of her passing and with a reign that spanned 70 years, the Queen was always recognized for her kindness, her concern for World Peace and for having contributed in every field in which she had the opportunity to do so.

Sport was no exception, as she participated in different events throughout her life, decorated many athletes, including boxers, and was always close to the discipline.

We remember episodes such as when she knighted the former world champion, Henry Cooper, in 2000 and also the recognition she gave to the former fighter John H. Stracey as a member of the British Empire a few months ago.

The Queen received many national delegations to the Olympic Games and always recognized the value of sportsmen and women’s representation. She also met Anthony Joshua in 2020 when he was WBA world champion.

The pioneer organization, like the rest of the world, is shocked by the news and sends its words of condolence to The Royal Family, friends and all the people represented by the monarch.
