Prospect Oscar Collazo took a big step in his career by defeating former world champion Vic Saludar to win the World Boxing Association (WBA) minimumweight eliminator fight in Los Angeles, California.

The three judges’ scorecards favored the Puerto Rican 116-112, 118-110 and 116-112, with which he overcame a great test against the experienced Filipino.

The 25-year-old fighter had the responsibility of showing himself to the world and what better way to do it than against an opponent of such hierarchy as Saludar.

It was a dramatic fight with a spectacular seventh round in which both went to the canvas. Collazo sent his opponent to the canvas with a body shot but also received an upper that knocked him down.

However, his hand speed and footwork made the difference throughout the fight and he ended up winning comfortably.

It was his fifth victory in the professional arena, while he has 3 knockouts. The Asian has a record of 21 wins, 6 losses and 11 knockouts.
