The undefeated American with Jamaican roots Errol Spence Jr, “The Truth”, WBC and IBF welterweight champion, and the Cuban Yordenis Ugás, “54 Milagros”, World Boxing Association (WBA) titleholder, will feature a fight that could be one of the best of the year from the technical point of view and that will leave the winner in possession of the three crowns of the category, this Saturday at the AT&T arena in Arlington.

Both fighters are characterized by their ability in the ring, which does not make it easy to make a prediction as to who could be the winner, even though most of the experts are in favor of Spence, 31, who surpasses the West Indian in knockout power, which is reflected in their records. In fact, Spence has 21 knockout victories in 27 performances, with no draws or defeats, while Ugas, who will be 36 years old in 4 months, has accumulated only a dozen wins by knockout in 27 fights, with 4 defeats and no draws.

The best and most relevant business card of the Santiago de Cuba-born fighter is his victory by clear and unanimous decision over the legend Manny Pacquiao, who announced his retirement after the setback, on August 21 last year, in his first defense of the 147-pound title (66.678 kilos). Against all odds, Ugas controlled and dominated the PacMan with a very intelligent fight in which he made his good defensive fencing and precision in his punches, mostly jabs, which will surely be the tools he will use against Spence.

However, experts believe that this will not be enough to contain Spence, one of the 10-12 best fighters in the world today.  However, “The Truth” could be affected by his 16-month break from the ring. He last defeated Californian Danny Garcia on points in December-2020, a fight that marked his comeback after miraculously recovering from a terrible car accident: he crashed his Ferrari, which was wrecked, on a Dallas, Texas, street in October 2019, even though he was fortunate not to suffer major physical damage. A month earlier, Spence jr had defeated Shawn Porter in a big fight in defense of his WBC and IBF belts.

A prediction as to who could be the winner in this attractive contest points to the American in either way, especially because of his punching power, although Ugas will not make things easy for him.

It is quite likely that the winner will seek a fight against Terence Crawford, WBO king and who many believe to be the most complete welterweight in the world.
