Gennady Golovkin won the World Boxing Association (WBA) middleweight belt after knocking out Japanese Ryota Murata last Saturday and thus returned home, because GGG’s career began to be forged in the KO’s Drugs of the pioneer organization. 

The first world championship that the Kazakh won was the WBA interim 160 lbs, he did it in Panama on August 14, 2010 after knocking out the Colombian Milton Nunez and his name began to be heard around the world, his next fight was in his country in December of that same year, sending Nelson Julio Tapia to sleep and changing his interim for a regular title to then return to anothe KO Drugs in Panamá to knock out against Kassim Ouma. 

In those WBA KO Drugs where GGG participated, it was evident that we were in front of a boxing star. He defended his title 17 times and all of them by knockout. He left on the way important names like Gabriel Rosado, Marti Murray, Daniel Jacobs or Kell Brook to mention a few. Thus came the two great battles with Canelo Alvarez and the public expects the third for September this year. 

Since 2018, GGG’s and the WBA’s paths diverged a bit, but this Saturday night they came together again and the pioneer organization received again one of the best boxers of this century in his home, where his career started.
