Kali Reis, World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight champion, presented the film “Catch the Fair One” last Wednesday in East Providence. The film, which she co-wrote and starred in, is intended to highlight violence against indigenous women to ensure that these stories are not repeated.

The film, produced and directed by filmmaker Josef Kubota Wladyka, tells the story of a Native American woman who voluntarily joins a sex trafficking ring to find her missing younger sister.

“It’s always been a pleasure for me to do what people say I can’t do and specially to change the narrative of being biracial,” Reis said.

The WBA champion addressed the audience to tell a bit of her story, her career and described her life as “an incredible journey” that is full of sports, as in addition to boxing she was also a volleyball, basketball, and softball player.

At the event, the champion received the key to the city from Mayor Bob DaSilva, who said: “we are very proud of you (Kali Reis) the key to the city is a symbol and a reminder that you are always welcome in your city”.

“Catch the Fair One” premiered in the United States on February 11.
