Canadian Jelena Mrdjenovich has held the World Boxing Association 126-pound absolute reign since 2016, and is ready for the sixth defense of her crown against Mexican Erika Cruz Hernandez on April 22nd. The bout will take place at the West Point Military Academy, New York, United States.

The veteran Canadian champion has been undefeated since that year in which she won the WBA title and has made great performances. The last one was in December last year when she defeated the tough Mexican fighter Iranda Paola Torres. While waiting for the unification of the belts in the featherweight division, Mrdjenovich accepted the challenge of fighting a Mexican fighter again in neutral territory for both of them. We are talking about Erika Cruz Hernández, who is ranked sixth in the WBA world rankings in the featherweight division.

Cruz Hernández, nicknamed “Dinamita”, was the first female boxer to win a silver medal in a Pan American tournament when the event took place in Guadalajara, 2011. She harvested a fruitful career as an amateur while she also joined the Federal Police of the Federal District of Mexico. She made her professional debut on March 6th, 2016 and holds a positive record of twelve wins with two KOs and only one loss. On March 8th, 2019, she won the WBC 126 lbs. silver belt by unanimous decision over Italian Vissia Trovato. This southpaw boxer has a technical boxing style and will look to show it off in the first fight out of Mexico with Mrdjenovich as the biggest challenge of her young career.

Promoted by USA Boxing, this female bout will be one of the main fights of the April 22nd card in New York.
