Osvary David Morrell is destined for greatness. The Cuban boxer made history on Saturday night by winning the World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim Super Middleweight Championship in his third professional fight, thus matching Vasyl Lomachenko and Saensak Muangsurin as the only fighters in history to become champions in only a trio of fights.

The native of Cuba only had three rounds of activity in two previous fights, but completed 12 rounds to beat Guyanese Lennox Allen by unanimous decision to win the black and gold belt at 168 pounds. The judges’ cards were 119-109, 120-108 and 118-110. Thus, he became the fighter who has required the least amount of fights to become a WBA Champion in history.

The fight held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, had an aggressive West Indian who intended to win the belt from the very first moment. Morrell went ahead and combined his punches very well to overwhelm Allen and get the best part in almost all the rounds of the fight.

However, Allen did not find an easy opponent. He worked well on the counter-attack and tried to face the new champion, but at the end his pace was not enough to counteract the Caribbean’s attack.

It was Morrell’s third professional win, and now he has a record of 3 wins, no losses and 2 KOs. On the other hand, Allen has a record of 22 wins, 1 setback, 1 draw and 14 KOs.
