Jorge Linares, world champion in three categories, closed the second day of the World Boxing Association (WBA) 99th Convention.

The Venezuelan fighter joined WBA President Gilberto Jesús Mendoza and journalist Ludo Sáenz, as well as dozens of fans who joined the talk via Zoom.

Linares is now preparing to return to the ring on August 28th in California to face Dominican Javier Fortuna and talked about what’s ahead for him in this turbulent 2020. He also talked about the early days of his career in boxing with the pioneer organization.

“I just learned that I’m fighting on August 28th. It will be a psychological challenge to fight without an audience because you can feel you are training”, said Jorge Linares.

Gilberto Jesús Mendoza talked about Linares adaptation in Japan and the work he did giving him motivational books as a teenager so he could keep his eyes on his goal.

Jorge Linares recalled many of his fights and great moments, like his fights against Anthony Crolla in Manchester or vs Oscar Larios to win his first title in 2007.

He also talked about his training in Japan and the guidance he received from the WBA to stay focused although he had to live away from his family for years.

“Not every athlete gets over the psychological aspect. One should listen and receive guidance. At first it affected me but I had good coaching thanks to the WBA”, said the “Golden Boy”.

Former champion Amir Khan also attended the meeting and will have his own talk with the fans at 4:00 pm on Friday (U.S. Eastern Time).

Linares’ fans also asked him questions. The WBA has set out to make this convention oriented to the public and has made a difference in two full days of work.
