The World Boxing Association (WBA) in compliance with its internal regulations, suspended three of the fighters who saw action last Saturday, July 27th, during the KO to Drugs card which was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The reason for the suspensions are purely medical, since all three were brutally knocked out during the evening and will now need 60 days of recovery before returning to boxing activity.

The Dominican William Encarnacion, his compatriot Luis Hernandez, and Venezuelan Ivan Matute are the three fighters who will have to spend time outside the ring. The first lost against the Nicaraguan Giovanny Gutierrez, the second was knocked out by the Venezuelan Jesus Cuadro and the third fell to the Dominican Bryan Medina.

The WBA clarifies what the rule dictates which is that any boxer who loses by knockout must be suspended for 60 days and deliver his license to the corresponding commission. The fighter may not return to the ring until he is evaluated by the doctors and undergo the examinations specified in article 1. Appendix A- Article 7.

The entity also emphasizes what rule C.14 says and is that all boxers and promoters are required to know the rules of the WBA.

In consideration of the rules explained above and always taking into account the health and well-being of the fighters, the WBA has the discretion to carry out the suspensions and remember that none of the three may develop boxing activities, not even training, until the suspension is lifted.

Interested parties may request reconsideration of the decision.
