Daniel Roman proved that he is one of the best fighters at 122 pounds by beating T. J. Doheny in his unification fight, retaining his World Boxing Association (WBA) title with a resounding performance. The expectation in the Forum of Inglewood, California, grew to a crescendo with the confrontation between two great fighters in a showdown between North America and Australia, but the WBA monarch knew how to tip the balance in his favor to prevail by majority decision.

The cards of the judges were 116-110, 116-110, and 113-113, with which Roman achieved an important victory and left a great impression on the fans of boxing. Although his opponent was faster and at times seemed to be quite accurate, the California native knew how to counteract it thanks to constant pressure and long shots that managed to damage the Oceania fighter.

Roman managed to knock down his opponent two times, despite Donehy’s sharp-shooting skills. Another key to the victory of “The Baby Faced Assassin” was body shots, which were weakening Doheny as the rounds wore on as he was able to take advantage in the final rounds of the fight.

The champion now has world titles of two different sanctioning bodies and has a run of 19 wins, as he has not lost a fight since 2013. His record improved to 27 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw, and 10 knockouts. In addition, Doheny fell to 21 wins, 1 loss, and 15 won via knockout.
