Two world championships this weekend.

This Saturday, January 27, two World Boxing Association (WBA) championships will be at stake at The Forum in Inglewood, California. One for the Welterweight title and one for the Lightweight title.

Argentine Lucas Matthysse and Thai Tewa Kiram will fight at 147 pounds. The South American, 35, returned to the ring in 2017 after two years of absence, with a victory over Emmanuel Taylor by technical knockout in the fifth round. On the other hand, the Asian, 25, will fight for a world title for the first time, but is backed by an immaculate record with no defeats.

Matthysse has a record of 38 wins, 4 losses and 35 knockouts, while Kiram has won 38 bouts, with 28 finished via knockout.

Meanwhile, Venezuelan Jorge Linares and Filipino Mercito Gesta will fight for the WBA Lightweight title, which is currently held by the Latin American. This will be the third title defense for the “Golden Boy”, who obtained his world championship after beating Englishman Anthony Crolla in 2016 and whose last defense was in September 2017, when he defeated Englishman Luke Campbell by split decision. On the other hand, the Asian boxer will have his first world title fight and aspires to live up to it. In his record, there is no defeat since 2012.

Linares, 32, has a record of 43 wins, 3 losses and 27 knockouts while Gesta, 30, has won 31 fights, lost one, tied 2 and knocked out 17 times.

Thus begins the world title activity for the WBA in 2018, which promises to bring great emotions.
