2017 un año en el que se retiraron grandes gladiadores.
2017 a year during which many gladiators retired.

2017 was a year of farewells, because great boxers decided to hang the gloves after leaving a great legacy on the rings. Among those who said goodbye we have: Takashi Uchiyama, Wladimir Klitschko, Juan Manuel Márquez and Miguel Cotto. All of them with a great professional career.

Uchiyama (24-2-1, 20 KO), reigned in the super featherweight division from 2010 until 2016. He made 11 successful defenses of his WBA title, which made him achieve the Super Champion Title. Without a doubt, the Japanese ex-monarch was the best in his weight and showed it with his great battles.

Meanwhile, Wladimir Klitschko (64-5, 53KO) also decided to hang his gloves, The Ucranian reigned in the heavyweight division in four occasions and was part of the WBA monarchs between 2011 and 2015. His last battle was in London, England before 90 thousand souls that packed Wembley Stadium to watch him face Anthony Joshua.  “Dr. Steelhammer” sold his defeat at a high price and along with his rival, they presented the public with a great battle in remembrance of the golden years of the queen of divisions.  Even though he was defeated, it was a great farewell for a great fighter.

Gracias por todo, Juan Manuel.
Thank you, Juan Manuel Márquez.

Thanks for everything, Miguel Cottto.

Lastly, Miguel Cotto (41-6, 33KO) also retired as a glory of the Puerto Rican Boxing. He reigned in four divisions. With the WBA he was a Welterweight and Super Welterweight champion. Without a doubt “Junito” had a great career and will always be remembered as a great boxer.

These four greats left the rings in 2017, but will be remembered as the great warriors who gave their best to boxing and the fans.
