The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee ordered an elimination bout in the Super Welterweight division between Kazakh Kanat Islam and American John Vera.

Islam is number one in the 154-pound ranking. His last fight was on September 29 this year, when he beat Brandon Cook by technical knockout to retain his WBA-Intercontinental belt. The fighter is undefeated, has 25 victories and 20 of them have been by knockout.

Vera, on the other hand, is the second ranked boxer of the category. In his last fight, held on September 29, 2017, he defeated Sunday Ajuwa in three rounds. He also holds an immaculate record, with 18 victories and 11 knockouts.

The resolution was sent to the parties on November 21, 2017, and they have 30 days to agree on the date of the fight. If there is no agreement, the fight will be called to a purse bid.
