Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin and American Daniel Jacobs hit the scales at 159.6 pounds and 159.8 pounds respectively on Friday. Thus, they are ready to fight this Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York for the WBA Middleweight Super Championship.

Golovkin is the current Super Champion at 160 pounds. He has climbed positions since 2010, when he won the interim title of the category after beating the Colombian Milton Núñez. Later, that same year, he knocked out Nilson Julio Tapia, also from Colombia, to become the regular monarch. However, thanks to the fact that he made 10 successful defenses, he won the Super Championship against the Australian Daniel Geale.

In total, he has successfully exposed his title 16 times, for which he is considered one of the best pound for pound boxers at the moment.

On the other hand, Jacobs is the WBA Middleweight Regular Champion. He obtained his title in 2014, when he defeated the Australian Jarrod Fletcher and, so far, has defended his belt four times. However, his best fight was in 2015 against Peter Quillin, whom he dispatched without mercy in the first round.

Undoubtedly, their curriculums and the fact that all their defenses have been by knockout make these two the best Middleweights of the moment: “GGG”, undefeated, with his 36 victories and 33 of them by knockout; while “Miracle Man” with 32 victories, one lost and 29 knockouts.

Officials

The New York Boxing Commission named Charlie Fitch from the United States as the third man on the ring, while Max DeLuca, Don Trella and Steve Weisfeld, all Americans, will be in charge of the cards. Meanwhile, the WBA Officials Committee appointed the Canadian George Martinez as the supervisor of the fight.
