Saturday at La Palestre in Le Cannet, France, EBU (European) super welterweight champion Michel Soro (28-1-1, 18 KOs), from Villeurbanne, Rhône, France, by way of Côte D’Ivoire, stopped Argentine (FAB) super welterweight champion Hector David Saldivia (45-4, 35 KOs), from Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut, Argentina, to win the vacant WBA International super welterweight title.

Soro wasted no time. He got right to work. He dropped “El Tigre” in the second round. After delivering a beating, the coup-de-grace came in third, courtesy a booming right hand to the head.

Saldivia was on a four-fight win streak. His last loss was to Kell Brook in 2012.

Soro was returning from a long layoff, due to managerial issues. He looked as good as new.

He fought like a man possessed.

He fought like a man making up for lost time.
