Gilberto Mendoza, President Emeritus of the World Boxing Association, continues his battle with cancer.

Surrounded by relatives, good friends, and well-wishers, he has not given up the fight, and has no intention of doing so.

Promoters Ricardo Rizzo, Salvatore Cherchi, and Vladimir Hrunov have traveled to Venezuela to visit Mr. Mendoza. WBA board members George Martinez and Julio Thyme, in addition to several officials from Panama and Puerto Rico, are expected to arrive during the week.

Mendoza’s wife, his tireless companion Elena Alvarado Mendoza, remains steadfastly at his side.

While he fights to get well, Sr. Mendoza insists that boxing and its growth throughout the world must continue, no matter what, because that is the future of the sport.
