On Saturday, October 17, Luis Ortiz and Matias Ariel Vidondo will face off at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Luis Ortiz and Matias Ariel Vidondo will face off over a scheduled 12 rounds at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, October 17, on the Gennady Golovkin-David Lemieux undercard. At stake, the interim WBA World heavyweight title.

Thirty-six-year-old Ortiz is a southpaw who fights out of Miami by way of Cuba. Eighth-ranked by the WBA, “The Real King Kong” is an undefeated five-year pro (22-0, 19 KOs, 2 NCs) who most recently fought in June, stopping Byron Polley by first-round TKO. He won the vacant WBA Fedelatin heavyweight title in June 2011 by knocking out Luis Andres Pineda in the sixth.

Ortiz’s Argentine opponent, who’ll turn 39 on October 30, is a five-year vet (20-1-1, 18 KOs) who hasn’t fought since October 2014, when he stopped Marcelo Fabian Dominguez by second-round TKO. “El Matador” won his country’s heavyweight title in August 2013 when his opponent, Fabio Eduardo Moli, was disqualified in the fifth for hitting him while he was down. Fifteenth-ranked by the WBA, the Argentine’s only loss came in November 2011, retired by Irineu Beato Costa Jr. in the eighth.
